After completing my degree in Industrial Electronic Engineering from UMinho, I began my IT career in support roles at Tecnidata, S.A. on the Siemens Semicondutores, S.A. / Infineon Technologies, S.A. project in Vila do Conde in 1997, where I remained until 2000. After a brief one-year stint at a web content startup, I joined UMinho in 2001 as an IT specialist in the Network and Systems Infrastructure area, where I performed a wide variety of functions in Systems, Support, and Security. During this period, I also completed my Master’s degree in Computer Engineering. In 2017, I embraced the challenge at Natixis / BPCE Groupe to create a Windows server systems team in Porto, ultimately transferring the entire operation from Paris to Porto, where I remained until 2024, before joining UPorto to lead the Information Security Unit.

The European cybersecurity landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by an increase in cyberthreats, stricter data privacy and GDPR compliance, and the widespread adoption of cloud technologies.
The efficient management of identities and access has become central to digital business. It determines the speed and agility with which an organization is able to operate or pursue new goals; it underpins employee productivity and enables operational efficiencies; and it is key to security, privacy, and compliance.
Ransomware attacks have been one of the most high-profile scourges of business over the past decade — and the threat shows no signs of abating. If anything, it has become more prevalent as “ransomware as a service” has lowered the entry barrier for threat actors.
If you’re a cloud provider that can offer high-caliber solutions for security and compliance, then cloud users in Europe need you. This is the most important factor organizations on the continent consider when selecting a cloud platform for migrating and modernizing applications, according to our research (IDC’s EMEA Cloud Survey 2023, August 2023, n = 1,610).
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, the hybrid cloud has become an indispensable strategy for organizations aiming to maximize their IT investments. Our insights reveal that hybrid cloud is not just a trend but a critical component of modern IT infrastructure, blending the strengths of private and public clouds to foster efficiency, performance, and agility.
Welcome to the era of xOps where the focus is on sharpening operations capabilities – ranging from visibility to governance to optimization and efficiency for maximizing the business value.
